Watch Your Pockets, George Foreman: Evander Holyfield’s Own Grill Headed To Retailers

Is Evander Holyfield trying to totally copy George Foreman? First, he puts together a fight with WBA champion Nikolai Valuev, a seven-footer who resembles something from The Princess Bride more than an actual human being, despite being well, well, well past his prime.
The rapidly aging “Real Deal” has now followed Foreman into the business world. In a rip-off the likes of which we haven’t seen since Deion Sanders’ “Hot Dog Express,” it was announced yesterday that Holyfield’s very own “Real Deal Grill” is set to premier in retail stores across the Midwest just in time for the “Black Friday” holiday sales rush.
Hmm. Electric grill, cooks food, drains grease, makes waffles…doesn’t this sound awfully familiar?
Introduced via infomercials in the U.S. in 2007 and in Europe this year, the Evander Holyfield Real Deal Grill is manufactured by a CirTran subsidiary — CirTran-Asia, Inc. – which specializes in consumer and small appliance products. The Grill comes with a deluxe stand and multiple interchangeable cooking surfaces and other add-on items, making it what Glen Tanner, CirTran’s vice president of marketing and sales, calls “a very versatile cooking appliance for any occasion . . . whether you’re camping in the mountains, tailgating at a game, or grilling at home.”
Prior to this retail debut, the Evander Holyfield Real Deal Grill has been available only through infomercials and online through the CirTran and Holyfield Web sites.
Evander, you hack. Every grill you sell is a direct assault on the pockets of George Foreman. And since Foreman has, by all accounts, been good to his ten children, while you’ve busied yourself removing them from the health insurance, we feel we have to stick up for Big George here.
How’s this for a slogan, Evander? “The Real Deal Grill: Pretty Good When It’s Young, But Still Insists On Trying To Cook Your Food Even Though It’s Been Broken For Years.” We think we’re gonna trademark that one.
As long as we’re talking about boxers who should have stayed retired, we will take a moment to point out that Riddick Bowe, the cheeseburger loving, spouse abusing former champion, has signed up for the undercard of the Wladimir Klitschko/Hasim Rahim title fight, which will go down December 13 in Germany.
Former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe will fight for the first time in three years on the undercard of the Wladimir Klitschko versus Hasim Rahim IBF title fight Dec. 13 against a still to be determined opponent, the organizers said Thursday.
Bowe, 41, retired in 1996 and came back in 2004. He had another fight in 2005 and has not fought since.
Bowe only lost once in his professional career, and that was to the aforementioned grilling rip-off artist. We feel like something rather memorable and considerably crazy might have taken place during that fight, but we can’t quite put our finger on it.
Oh yeah.
