One of the bigger offseason moves that Tottenham made was to bring Mexican striker Giovani Dos Santos over to White Hart Lane from Barcelona. But while Spurs have had a resurgence of sorts under their new coach Harry Redknapp, Dos Santos has remained on the bench tocandose las pelotas as our mother would have eloquently put it. Unfortunately, it’s gotten worse as he’s tweaked his ankle during practice, which puts two things in jeopardy. The first is his availability for Mexico and their World Cup qualifiers.

“He picked up a nasty injury in training on Monday morning and he’ll be out for a while. (Mexico coach) Sven-Goran Eriksson rang me a few days ago and asked how he was. We’re not sure how long he’ll be out for.

The second is a new wrinkle that might have him packing up his bags again.

Chelsea are reportedly planning a January bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Mexican International Giovani Dos Santos.

The 19-year old, who joined Spurs from Barcelona in a £4.7million move during the summer, is seemingly frustrated at his limited chances at White Hart Lane and Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari is looking to take full advantage of this situation by offering him a place in his Stamford Bridge squad.

The Mexican has made only three starts since his move to Spurs, and is still to play a game under new boss Harry Redknapp.

With Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko upfront doing such a bang up job, we wonder if using Dos Santos up front, as Spurs have been doing, rather than utilizing him in his natural middle position is good for his development. Maybe sending him to Chelsea is the right move. Tottenham gets some transfer cash to recoup what they invested and use towards this January transfer surprise people are talking about, and the Blues get an experienced 19 year old to mold right.
