It’s not a secret that one of the reasons why Barack Obama was elected President is his cache with the young folks. And one of the reasons why the young’uns got on board with him was his penchant for using strictly Mac products. Oh-la-la. But has the President-Elect shot himself in the foot by being seen using a Microsoft Zune, which looks like an iPod if every bit of style was stripped out of it and alternately modeled after a block of cheese? He was seen with it on a treadmill while reading a copy of USA Today… oh jesus, make it stop! But luckily, people much nerdier than us have broken the code that may have derailed a presidency before it even began.

OK, this is making a whole lot more sense now. Possibly solving the mystery that has perplexed the technology world, Microsoft blogger Steve Clayton points out that the company made special-edition Zunes for the Democratic National Convention.

Of course! That explains it. Now we know how Barack Obama ended up with a Microsoft music player as his digital companion on that treadmill next to Philadelphia City Paper writer Neal Santos this week. I mean, what else could it possibly be? Surely Obama didn’t buy the thing!

Apparently from what we understand, you can “zap” tunes from Zune to Zune, so this makes the cheese-pod a threat to national security. If he were ever to be bombed by terrorists using the Zune to triangulate his position… well, it’d be worse disaster than Vista, we’ll tell you that.
