Despite the downfall of EliteXC, and the total lack of interest on the part of the UFC, Kimbo Slice may still have an MMA career ahead of him.
Reports are circulating that Slice, real name Kevin Ferguson, could be headed to Japan as the latest addition to the K-1 empire. But even if he’s not, we’ll still be able to see our man Kimbo on national television on Friday, albeit in the most unlikely place we could imagine.
Nickelodeon.

First, let’s address the rumors that Slice and K-1 are entering a deal. Since the original report was written entirely in Japanese, we’re getting this third-hand. Fight Opinion has the scoop, at least the English version.

Omasuki Fight has a note from a Tokyo Sports mobile news update, which claims that Kimbo Slice could appear at K-1’s 12/6 Yokohama Arena event to announce his future participation for the organization (starting in March of 2009). The name of Slice’s first opponent being floated? Badr Hari.

Hari, of course, is the reigning heavyweight champ at K-1, and we have to wonder if anything could come out of this for him. If he beats Slice, well, no one expects Slice to do very much these days anyway, following his quick defeat at the hands of an unheralded Seth Petruzelli in October.
But what if Hari loses? Much of the MMA world has a very low opinion of Slice’s ability as a fighter. If he were to become the K-1 champ in his first fight there, would that cause the entire company to be downgraded in the eyes of MMA fans? Or were we all wrong about Slice, and maybe he just got caught off-guard by Petruzelli?
In any case, those looking for their Kimbo fix should set their TiVo’s for Friday night’s showing of Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh, scheduled to air at 8 p.m. EST on Nickelodeon.

At once a comic adventure and a poignant story for the season, Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh guest-stars Henry Winkler and MMA fighter Kimbo Slice respectively as the fair-minded judge and Josh’s good-hearted ex-cellmate who help the brotherly duo keep their Christmas promise to a family of foster kids. And on a merry, musical note headliner Drake Bell rings in the season - and engages the foster kids and his band — with rocking renditions of Jingle Bells and The 12 Days of Christmas.

We’re not at all familiar with the show, but the idea of seeing Slice and The Fonz on the same screen really, really has us looking forward to this one. Get excited people, Kimbo is ushering in the holiday season.
