Whas happened in sports last night.

  • NFL: It doesn’t have the cache it used to, but Monday Night Football is still pretty important, especially in football-heavy markets like Texas. So when the Houston Texans made their first appearance on MNF, surely most of the people in H-Town had their eyes on the game, and they weren’t disappointed. Mario Williams had three sacks and forced a fumble while Steve Slaton rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns. In the grand scheme of things, one 4-8 team beating another doesn’t do much, but we’re sure for the it was somethin’ nice. Now who’s gonna treat us to their Papasitas leftovers? • NBA: This is a red card not even we can agree with, and agree with most of them. [The Beautiful Game]
  • De La Hoya-Pacquiao News: They’re on the road and headed to Vegas! Next stop, MGM Grand, please. [LA Times]
  • College Football News: Which dead weight is harder to lose—the one around Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis’ tummy, or Charlie Weis himself from Notre Dame’s ranks. The reported buyout amount on his contract is now $20 million. Touchdown Jesus Christ. [Larry Brown Sports]
  • NBA News: Pau Gasol… sexiest man alive? [The Sports Hernia]
  • WNBA News: Apparently not even the mighty NBA could weather this messy economy—they just could afford to keep the Houston Comets around in the WNBA. The four-time championship winning team will shut down immediately. [UPI]
