Imagine only being able to describe the horror of a plane crash… 140 characters at a time. That’s what incredible nerd Mike Wilson did when he was in the plane that crashed on Saturday during take off at Denver’s International Airport. Wilson was one of 155 people on the Continental flight that experienced the plane veering off the runway, losing one of its engines and bursting into flames. And, other than the whole Twitter thing, felt what most people would in that situation.

Holy fucking shit I wasbjust in a plane crash!

Yup, misspellings and everything.

It was the first of 30 messages Mr Wilson sent to the popular microblogging service, initially via text message and then, when he got home later that night, via the web.

His second Tweet – in which Mr Wilson complained about losing his glasses – came half an hour later after the passengers had taken shelter from the sub-zero temperatures in one of the airports four fire stations… [h]e then posted an early picture of the crash before lamenting the availability of drinks at the Continental Airlines President’s Club, where the passengers were taken.

“You have your wits scared out of you, drag your butt out of a flaming ball of wreckage and you can’t even get a vodka-tonic. Boo,” he wrote.

Yeah, we would be bawling about not getting a drink, too, if we were just in a plane that almost disintegrated while we were in it. Wilson is now twittering about being interviewed everywhere, which is about as meta as you can get—twittering about being interviewed about twittering. We’re through the looking glass people, and our fifteen minutes of fame has been reduced to a news cycle.
