When Rafael Furcal signed with the Dodgers earlier this week, we never thought there were any machinations involved in the deal. Apparently the agents from Arm Tellem’s agency, on behalf of Furcal, did a dipsy-doo with his contract while negotiating with the Braves, the shortstop’s former team. According to Los Bravos, the group had a verbal agreement with the free agent, but then the agents went to the Dodgers to get another year and more money. The Dodgers bit, the agents and Furcal took the deal and everyone was happy. Except the Braves, who have been beating their chests about the reneged deal to everyone who’ll listen, even going so far as to say they’ll never deal with the agency again.

“Having been in this business for 40-some years, I’ve never seen anybody treated like that,” Schuerholz said. “The Atlanta Braves will no longer do business with that company — ever. I told [agent] Arn Tellem that we can’t trust them to be honest and forthright. I told him that in all my years, I’ve never seen any [agency] act in such a despicable manner.

Yeah, something tells us that they’re not used to it because, more often than not, they’re on the fucking end of the stick. Muti-million dollar corporations don’t get that way because they play fair or nice, especially sports teams. Look at it as a karmic comeback for all the times the poor sap paid minimum wage had to clean up the vomit from some guy they’ve sold $10 beers to. Socialism in a capitalist sort of way, ya know?
