Report: Wladimir Klitschko To Face Chris Arreola In May

Has Chris Arreola already signed up to fight Wladimir Klitschko?
According to a report at Boxing Scene, Arreola’s campa has confirmed that the up-and-coming Mexican-American heavyweight will square off against Klitschko, who on Saturday easily defeated former champ Hasim Rahman in a bout that looked more like a gym session than a title fight.
The match would take place in May, and right here in the United States. Could we be this lucky?

Wes Crockett, a kind of talent-scout who initially brought Paul Williams and Arreola to Al Haymon’s attention, came to the Toney fight with a large group that included former USC football standout Mike Williams and a number of other close friends. Mike Williams and Arreola actually seemed to hit it off as the former college football star joked with Chris, “They say you’re going to be the first Mexican heavyweight champion, but with that big-ass nose, you might be black!”

Later on in the night BoxingScene was involved in a round-table discussion with Mr. Crockett and he stated, “I’ve been fighting since I was five years old, and I knew when I saw Chris and Paul [Williams] that they were going to be champions, they both had the talent and they are both natural-born fighters, I could see it in their eyes. It’s done, Chris is fighting Klitschko on May 12 at the Staples Center, and it’s a done deal.”

BoxingScene.com was astonished by the information and since it was received in a socially-intimate environment, Crockett was asked if the information could be reported and he responded, “I don’t give a f-ck, write what you want.”

Kudos to Boxing Scene for the scoop. We haven’t seen this anywhere else, but if it’s true this would be a major boost for the heavyweight division here in the United States. Not only is Arreola undefeated, but he represents the best chance of any American fighter to grab one of the belts away from either Wladimir, his brother Vitali, or Nikolai Valuev.
