Cristiano Ronaldo Picks Up His World Player of the Year Award

Last night in Zurich, Cristiano Ronaldo picked up his trophy for being the best player in the world. Although in this picture, it looks like the event took place in the International Space Station, which would be fitting. Not lacking last night was the Bingo Man’s ego, which would be hard to contain in any building on Earth.

“The decision on who wins is final and is one taken by specialists, people who know about football. You have people voting for me, people who are voting for Kaka, and so on. It is a matter of respecting the views of other people. The player who wins the award deserves it.”

Wow. Never has there been a more gracious, yet assholey acceptance for an award. Well, there was that time when Roberto Baggio called Dennis Bergkamp a “pansy who couldn’t hit the side of a barn” when he picked up the same award in ‘93, but that was more direct.
