Does this face look like it belongs to a scumbag? According to former Buc and current malconent/free agent Simeon Rice it does. Rice was on the “Movin’ The Chains” radio show when he unleashed a torrent of hell fire on the recently fired Jon Gruden, his former coach who he won a Super Bowl with. According to Rice, Gruden has a knack for totally discarding or ignoring players who’ve been injured on his watch, players like Chris Simms, Keenan McCardell, Joey Galloway, Brad Johnson and Jeff Garcia. Who are we forgetting… oh yeah, Rice himself, who was released after he tore his shoulder off the wrist. Yikes, we’d want nothing to do with him after that, either, just so we wouldn’t be reminded of how much that must’ve hurt.
“How I feel personally? I could tell you that, too. I think he’s a scumbag. I think he’s a scumbag personally. … You know what he told me? ‘Simeon you’ll be here in the next five years.’ I got injured [and] this man’s never said one word to me. I won a Super Bowl for you. I got 13 sacks, 12, 15 every year for you. I balled. I got injured [and] you let me go like it was nothing.”
Do you think Gruden’s always been that way, or was it the way he got booted from Oakland that did it in? Sure Al Davis threw away a diamond, but he did it fabulously—by essentially trading him for draft picks (which they used to get Phillip Buchanon—yeesh!) like a common player. Things like that can take its toll on a young coach.
Or maybe he’s just always been a scumbag.
