Giants Coach Kevin Gilbride Must Be Sad, Begs Crappy Raiders For A Job “Intervew” That Didn’t Exist

Giants Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride must be doing something right. In the past two seasons, he’s created one of the better balanced scoring machines behind a three-headed running back committee, which racked up an average of 5 YPC, and a quarterback who always looks like he’d rather be doing something else. Oh yeah, and he also won a Superbowl with said line up. The Oakland Raiders have such an offensive lineup, which makes us wonder why the stories about Gilbride talking to Al Davis about the semi-vacant head coaching position (Tom Cable still wears the “interim” tag on his sweater) are so one-sided. Anyone you ask, they’ll say Davis was only doing Gilbride a favor after his agent wrote the Raiders owner asking for an interview. But whether it’s to avoid NFL tampering rules or because they haven’t a clue in their head (we always go with the latter in the Raiders’ case), they don’t seem to want anything to do with him.
[I]t was Gilbride who contacted the Raiders and not the other way around, Raiders senior executive John Herrera said.
“We did not seek permission to interview Kevin Gilbride,” Herrera said. “The Raiders received a letter from Gilbride’s agent seeking a phone conversation with Mr. Davis.”
The NFL Network reported Saturday that the Raiders requested permission from the Giants to interview Gilbride for their coaching vacancy… Herrera said the conversation between Davis and Gilbride wasn’t necessarily an interview.
This all sounds like Bill Clinton denying he banged Monica Lewinsky in the White House. But why? The Raiders offense, other than their blowout of Denver and Tampa Bay at the end, was less than outstanding the rest of the year. This all suggests that Oakland is leaning towards keeping Cable back next season to avoid bringing in their fifth coach in six seasons. Although with Al Davis, nothing short of making JaMarcus Russell player-coach is out of the realm of possibility.
