In our lifetimes, of all the athletes that aren’t in the Hall of Fame, football’s Art Monk, and baseball’s Jim Rice and Andre Dawson had been the players who everyone creamed about. Well, Monk made it last year into the NFL’s HoF, and now this year Jim Rice—along with Rickey Henderson—has made it into the enshrining ceremony, only 14 years after being first eligible. He garnered 76.2% of the vote, with 75% needed to make it in. Lucky for him, too, because this was his last year of eligibility before his “file” was handed to the Veterans’ Committee for review. And now, all that’s left is Andre Dawson, who we believe deserves to be in the Hall just for that luxurious Jheri Curl that used to bounce when he rounded the bases as Wrigley Field.
