Whas happened in sports last night.

  • College Basketball: Be it far from us to support anything as pretentious as Harvard, but we like them in the underdog role they seemed to relish last night as they upset Boston College. Why? Because earlier in the day, the BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo fired his head football coach Jeff Jagodzinski for taking an interview with the Jets. Hey buddy, wake up and smell the aughts—it’s what all coaches do, especially to smaller schools they make successful like he did yoursl. Call Havard’s win a reverse nerd karmic payback. • NFL: Well that was quick. Only a few days after being fired by the Jets, Eric Mangini is being hired as the new coach of the Cleveland Browns. [Cleveland Plain Dealer]
  • Dakar Rally: Just because it was moved to South America doesn’t mean the Dakar Rally is any easier. Frenchman motorcyclist Pascal Terry was found dead on the route yeterday after he’d been reported missing since Saturday. [ESPN]
  • Olympics: You know the economy’s bad when Home Depot’s even firing the Olympics. [Sporting News]
  • College Football: Someone with a lot of time, and a lot of nerve, stole the glasses off the statue of Penn State’s wily football coach Joe Paterno. [Yahoo!]
  • Serie A: Has Becks made AC Milan into the laughingstock of the league? [Sun UK]
