NBA Players And Coaches: Fans Are Dumb, Shouldn’t Vote For All-Star

We’ve always been a fan of the people having their say. Whether it’s voting for their favorite M&M or, you know, a president, people should be given a choice. However. One thing that’s always got our goat is the ability for people to vote in players to the All-Star team. We at Machochip are firmly against it after once being witness to a friend casting about 1000 votes for Milwaukee’s Bill Hall online after Hall’s hit won him a fantasy league matchup. Sometimes, people don’t know what the hell they’re doing, and the fact that Tracy “Ow, My Freaking Groin” McGrady is leading Chris Paul in the NBA All-Star balloting is just another example. We’ve been fans of Paul ever since he nutshotted Julius Hodge in college, but that’s not the reason why we’re so incensed. The guy’s left those comparisons with Deron Williams in the dust and is the future along with LeBron. So why is third in the balloting? Some NBA experts have ideas…

  • “It just shows that a lot of the fans should not be voting for starters,” Hornets Coach Byron Scott said. “It’s ridiculous to have the best point guard in the world third in the voting. It should be him and Kobe Bryant starting for the All-Star team.”
  • “That’s really mind-boggling to me that the top point guard in the NBA doesn’t get selected to start, I don’t understand that,” Hornets center Tyson Chandler said. “I understand Kobe, but nothing against Tracy, Paul should be a starter.”
  • “Fans just see somebody get a dunk and vote for them,” [Clippers guard Jason Hart] said. “You can put the stock in the fans if you want to. What other point guard has played better than Chris? I think he should start.”
  • “It’s a popularity contest, who can get the most because of where they are, all that sort of thing,” Utah Coach Jerry Sloan said. “I guess if the fans want to see them, they are the ones who pay the bills when you look at the whole picture.
  • “(Yao) brings a lot of money into this league from China. Don’t forget somebody’s got to pay the toll for all money these guys are making.”
Yeah, but why don’t they let the people vote in the players, and the coaches pencil in their starting line-ups. That way the system of checks and balances remains in check for the NBA. It also spares us the sight of having to watch Chris Paul on the bench during the start of the All-Star game as T-Mac pulls his groin walking to the middle of the floor.
