USC Coach Pete Carroll Not Really Loving Mark Sanchez’s Decision To Go Pro

As commenter Pachanga noted yesterday, it was probably time for USC’s Mark Sanchez to go pro. And he gave his intent yesterday in a conference that was tenser than a dinner where you bring home your stripper fiance for the first time. Both Sanchez and ‘SC coach Pete Carroll noted that they were of different minds on the decision, but the main man decided to take it one step further and give a step-by-step diagram on why his now-former quarterback is a knuckehead for leaving school early.
“Mark is going against the grain on this decision and he knows that.. He knows that coming out early is a tremendous challenge for a quarterback and the statistics don’t back up that it’s easy to be successful in the way that he’s going about it. We’ve seen successes and we’ve seen guys come up short on this deal. We hope this works out beautifully for Mark and his family.”
Wow. Talking about selling out your QB. USA Today is actually wondering if, because Carroll is now so respected by NFL scouts (after his rather unsuccessful outing coaching there), his speech yesterday will end up costing Sanchez money. Sure, he’s ranked as the second best QB prospect and 10th overall, but after what we saw from Carroll, we could see scouts wondering what the coach sees that they don’t.
Check out the video after the jump.
