When Many Pacquiao decided to not sign on the dotted line for a fight against Ricky Hatton, it was sort of a signal from his camp that he was taking on all comers—if the price is right. And one of the bigger names that’s been thrown out there has been Tijuana’s own Antonio Margarito. Margarito, who takes on Sugar Shane Mosley tomorrow night, has to get past Mosley and then on June 13, win his rematch with Miguel Cotto. Then he can write his ticket with Pacquiao in a December bout. Oh yeah, besides the boxers, Margarito—who still lives in a rough and tumble TJ neighborhood—has to make sure he doesn’t get shot and beheaded during his “normal” routine of going to the gym and going on his runs. Hey Tony, it’s called a treadmill… or Big Bear. Use one of them and save your wife some grief, yeah?

“The violence is now attacking everyone,” Margarito’s wife Michelle laments in Spanish. “They don’t respect anything. “We’re both from Tijuana. We grew up in these same neighborhoods,” Michelle says.

Adds Margarito: “I’m comfortable there.”

Yeah, we kinda understand. We lived in kind of a shitty neighborhood growing up in L.A. But one thing is dodging bullets or gangbangers on your way to school. It’s a whole ‘nother thing to have to sidestep the heads of journalists that were killed by a cartel on your morning run.
