Jose Reyes car accident proves Mets are still cursed or something

Who knows exactly why God hates the Mets. Some pagan ritual gone horribly wrong? Insufficient shout-outs to him in post-game interviews? Perhaps. For whatever reason, The Almighty continued to assert his cruel dominance over the harried franchise and this time he was kind of a dick about it. Shortstop Jose Reyes, on the DL since May 21st, was en route to the hospital for a checkup when a goddamned fire truck rear-ended him on the RFK bridge (he and Mets trainer Ray Ramirez were apparently unhurt). This on the same day the Mets announced that Carlos Beltran was joining Reyes and Carlos Delgado on the DL, leaving David Wright alone to fend for himself in the wild.
Something’s gotta give here, man. There’s plenty to criticize about the Mets, but with this season’s injuries and The Great Collapse still stinging in everyone’s minds it’s quite clear that somebody (Willie Randolph?) needs to appeal to a higher power in whatever way possible. Maybe a Votivo Candle Day, or a special promotion where curanderas get in for free. Something.
