Argentine Newscasters Pranked Into Warning Against The Grog Recipe From Monkey Island

Check out these poor sap TV newsers in Argentina, their brows furiously knotted as they advise parents about the dangers of the latest fad that the kids are getting wasted on: “grog”. Of course, the recipe they show is actually from a twenty year old pirate-themed video game. Video after the jump.
The Monkey Island series was one of those dopey PC DOS games in the 90’s, just a step up from Oregon Trail, with a whole bunch of pirates getting into all kinds of adventures. One of those adventures was drinking grog. According to the game:
Grog is a secret mixture that contains one or more of the following: Kerosene, Propylene Glycol, Artificial Sweeteners, Sulphuric Acid, Rum, Acetone, Battery Acid, red dye #2, Scumm, Axle grease and/or pepperoni.
How this made it’s way onto C5N news in Argentina is anybody’s guess, but likely they had a prankster drop them a warning about this new fad, and nobody at any stage of the editorial process took a second to go, “Hey - does anybody really think kids are drinking battery acid for kicks?”
Well done. Our favorite is the poor doctor’s inability to properly Google SCUMM, which is the program that enables these point and click games. We hope they’ve learned their lesson here, before they start reporting on these magical plants the kids are eating that enable them to throw fire balls.
