David Beckham To Leave In Disgrace After Failing To Make Soccer Our National Pastime

David Beckham’s magical journey into the hearts of all Americans continued over the weekend with him earning a red card (and automatic one game suspension) against the Seattle Sounders FC, while still getting booed continuously by LA Galaxy Fans. Now a new tell-all book is coming out, and everybody will read it and laugh and make him go home in tears, because Real Football is about to start so who cares about Becks anyway?
Things still have not simmered down in L.A. since Beckham’s infamous run-in with Galaxy fans a month ago, with fans still feeling cheated by his time-share deal with Milan. But then Beckham was shown the door on Saturday after a good old fashioned studs-up tackle on former teammate Peter Vagenas, and that was the end of that for the Galaxy (who then had to rely on swine flu-riddled captain Landon Donovan.) Beckham was booed viciously, and was seen looking pretty much at the end of his rope while out on the town in Beverly Hills last night (pictured above.)
Meanwhile, a new book about the Beckhams by Sports Illustrated scribe Grant Wahl is getting the excerpt treatment over at The Daily Beast and it’s good reading. The Beckham Experiment details the ways in which the Galaxy and Hollywood at large tried to cram Posh and Becks down America’s throat and how, for the most part, they failed spectacularly. Really, it’s completely insane when you realize it’s been only two short years since they first touched down in LA, and a few aborted reality shows and underwhelming seasons of lame-ass soccer later and we’re ready for them to go home.
Also, Tom Cruise is the very most important person in their lives. You already knew this, but perhaps not the extent to which this is true:
When Victoria picked the Beckhams’ house on San Ysidro Drive in Beverly Hills, it was less than five minutes from their new neighbors, Cruise and Holmes. David even acknowledged that Cruise had influenced the decision to name the Beckhams’ third son Cruz. “I must admit, when we met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different.’”
Yeeek. Anyway, everybody knows that he’s miserable and wants to leave and play in Europe again, and everybody in LA hates him and enjoys screaming at him, so it’s really only a matter of time before he high-tails it out of town and admits utter, humiliating defeat. And some people might notice, depending on whose playing in the ALCS at the time.
