We may be cautious in our approval of Giovani dos Santos's new WAG, pop "star" Belinda, but Univision's Fernando Schwartz has no time for that crap. He's been there/done that, man, and he took to the pages of OEM online to warn the Mexican soccer star to watch out, because that girl is poison.
Specifically, the Locura por el Fútbol host has a beef with Belinda escorting dos Santos around the Televisa offices in a very-thinly veiled attempt to promote her stint on Cameleones. And, oh the fun that Schwartz has with that title! He uses it four times throughout his piece, to describe how, (among other things), her publicity-whoring "changes the color of love." He also says dos Santos needs to, himself, become the chameleon, so that he can change, "the color of the game." See what he did there? Journalism, man.
Schwartz also has a problem with a player of Dos Santos' caliber being forced to wait for Belinda in a limo at the airport because that's just humiliating. More than anything, though, Schwartz sees through the fog of lust and fame to recognize the situation for what it is: an unlikable pop dummy trying to put her career on track by being seen with a hot-shit ball player. He's seen it before, he warns dos Santos: so many players "used and abused and discarded," blinded by "temptation and seduction."
Really, we love this, and we need to see more of it in the sports journalism world. Maybe Schwartz can start a weekly column where he gives relationship advice to players, and then maybe some financial planning or fashion tips. Legal advice. Driving directions. Ask Fernando Schwartz any time, because he's here and ready to help.
