Huevos Rancheros: Nike Launches New Campaign Featuring The Balls Of El Tri

In a display of testicular fortitude, Nike launched a new advertising campaign recently in support of the Mexican National Team, highlighting what the notion of huevos means to some star players. Nike contends that the term huevos represents courage, bravery and commitment on the field. They fail to mention that it also means balls. Big, stinking, hairy balls. Balls that make you unafraid, unabashed and unaware of the offensiveness of your actions. And in that sense, Nike must have some huevos grandes.
Take a moment to consider if Kobe Bryant and Shaq were at the center of an ad campaign focusing on what balls mean to them. Kobe might say, balls are not stopping when a hotel chick says no. Or maybe, balls mean taking 20 more shots than everyone on your team, every game. Perhaps, Shaq would say, having balls means asking former teammates to tell you how your ass tastes. Or, balls are acting like you can still carry a team when you’re 370 pounds and pushing 40.
So yeah, not sure it’s appropriate for American stars to speak about their balls. Americans usually find their balls getting them into trouble, rather than inspiring courageous bravery. Having balls here isn’t about commitment as much as confrontation. One has the balls to talk shit to a boss or to tell a woman her titties look nice, but not to start the attack from the defense or to go out with a soaked shirt. That sounds just like the right way to play soccer and/or live life, but not particularly ballsy. Furthermore, we have no fucking idea why they put an open mouth for the “O” in huevos. Is that an allusion to dining on chin nuts?
Do you think this campaign will work well in Mexico? Does the concept of huevos there have a less explicitly testicular connotation? Regardless, we think Nike’s overriding point remains true: Con ganas se sueƱa, con huevos se llega. With desire you dream, with balls you get there.

Hi, I’m Mexican and live now in the US and saw the HUEVOS T-shirt last week during the game (went to see the Mexican National Team) and the connotation of huevos in Mexico is different depending on the context you use it; for the most part it means courage, determination, bravery but as you say in your article it can also mean balls (testicles); but in this case (Mexican Football National Team) the campaing is obviously focused on the bravery concept; and as why the O on the Huevos word was substituted by an open mouth, it’s nothing subliminal there but because this campaing was before the Mexico vs US game - we Mexican asked the team to play with HUEVOS (courage) and therefore we were ready to shout at our team that during the game (which we did) and at the end…they played with huevos and they won. Greetings
