Mexican Tattoo Artist Jorge Castro Breaks World Record By Being Suspended From Meat Hooks For Three Hours

As our Big Year of Latino Achievement continues unabated, let us take a moment to celebrate Mexico’s Jorge Castro, who is now in the Guinness Book of World Records for being suspended from meat hooks in his back for 2 hours, 50 minutes! Pics after the jump, if you’re not the squeamish type.

The stunt was a part of the International Convention of Tattoo at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and broke the previously held mark of 2 hours, 40 minutes (set by Castro in 2007.) So basically, every two years, Jorge Castro sticks three meat hooks in his back and hangs from them for incrementally longer periods of time, for which he should be commended.

Now, we’ve had our fun making fun of any number of stupid things that Latino dudes engage in to prove their manhood, but we’re pretty OK with this because it’s so beautifully weird. And unlike, say, the Running of the Bulls, it’s not the sort of thing any old idiot can try to do after downing a few shots of tequila. There’s not a whole lot of room for amateurs in the world of fetish hook suspension. Just a few crazy people trying to have a good old time.

Ooh, fun fact! When you’re taken down from one of these suspensions, particularly the prolonged ones, the skin you’ve been hanging from has been stretched out a bit and has to be massaged back into place. When this is done there is a nice little crackling sound, from air bubbles being massaged out. Don’t ask how we know this: we just do.
