Lumidee Goes To Cuba, Thaws Relations With U.S. With Her Hotness
5 August 2009, 5:36 PM. By Jack Tomas
American rapper named Lumidee is shooting a music video in Havana, (not a backdrop set on a Burbank lot made to look like Havana), but the real deal. Americans have been barred from the island for the last 47 years due to the giant pissing contest between the Castro brothers and The United States. With the two foes shaking off and getting ready to put their wieners back in their pants, artist, musicians, and regular folk are already travelling there and working with Cubans. Sometimes, shooting a video, playing a song, or taking a vacation can be an act of civil disobedience.
Lumidee (who is a hotty McHotpants) is one of a handful of American artists to shoot a video on the island, but the cultural exchange is nothing new. In the pre-Castro days American musicians played on the island all the time and Cuban musicians played in the United States (or Junited State.) Lest we forget that a Cuban man, Desi Arnaz, was one half of television’s favorite couple, and one of the first great American TV moguls (and a straight up pimp.) Cuban musicians came to New York in the years after the revolution and joined forces with Puerto Rican artists and created Salsa. Ry Cooder travelled to Cuba in the 1990’s to create the multi-platinum Buena Vista Social Club albums. Audioslave, The Beastie Boys, and Dizzie Guillespie have all played on the island. American travelers have also been trickling in to Cuba over the last few years by flying through a third country, enjoying Cuba’s amazing climate, beaches, and mojitos. [Ed. Note: That is what prompted me to go. If I had one more gringo tell me they had been in my country and I had not, I was going to start stabbing people in the head.]
As Obama and Castro begin talking about maybe beginning to think about opening stuff back up, musicians, artists, and the citizenry of the United States have sent a clear message to the government: lift the embargo. Only through cultural exchange, trade, and interaction will there ever be any kind of change on the island. Lumidee is our seriously sexy rap ambassador, dropping science on those Cubano’s heads. Let’s all just calm down and enjoy the music.

I remember Lumidee…she had a small hit with Busta Rhymes in the 90s/early 00s. Slightly chubby, entirely unattractive and completely lacking in talent, she was the role model of every ugly & untalented Ghetto girl looking for fame in the music biz. LOL.
Wow. You are classy and sensitive.
