Trade Rumors: Ricky Rubio May Play In The US After All, For The Knicks, For Some Reason

Hey, remember when Ricky Rubio was drafted by the Timberwolves, but then he was all, “What the hell is a Timberwolf?” and opted to stay in Spain for another two years? Well now he’s apparently reconsidering, because the Knicks have expressed interest, and no one has had the heart to tell the kid how much they suck.
Summer has been weird for the first NBA draftee born in the 90’s: first he declared his intentions to play in Spain for another year or two, but not necessarily with his current club, DKV Joventut. Real Madrid and Barcelona both expressed interested in the player, and would not have been bound by NBA rules concerning contract buyouts. But then the ‘Wolves started lining up endorsement deals to finance buying out his Joventut contract, so it wouldn’t come out of the team’s pocket, without any guarantee that he’d even play there for at least another year. So, at this point, Rubio knows that he’ll be playing somewhere, in some country, eventually.
On top of that comes this report out of RealGM that Minnesota Timberwolves’ President David Kahn’s current trip to Spain is not to buy out Rubio’s contract for the ‘Wolves: it’s to help bring Rubio back so he can be dealt to the Knicks. An anonymous source tells RealGM that the Knicks have closed off all point guard negotiations for a week while they pursue Rubio. If they can’t get him to return to the US, they’ll carry on next week without him.
What’s funny to us in all this is that, as 20 Minutos reported in Spain, Rubio is partly reconsidering because the Knicks are one of his preferred NBA teams. But why? The Knicks suck, Rubio! Don’t believe the hype when they say this is gonna be a great rebuilding season! Of course, there is the possibility of being the franchise star on a rebuilding team, and the great fizzy good time of playing in New York, to say nothing of our professional joy at the idea of all Latino athletes hanging out in New York all of time. But watch yourself, Rubio. Don’t be fooled when Danny Walsh shows up with tapes of Patrick Ewing. That was a LONG time ago.

Mike D’Antoni turned regular ass Steve Nash into an MVP: TWICE. Fuck a good team, Rubio wants them assists.
Yeah - I sure hope D’Antoni can get around to working that fabled magic this year, cuz he sure as hell didn’t bring it the first time around. It would be pretty cool to see this kid turn into a monster, and NY into a contender again, if only so I can go to the Garden without being bored out of my skull for the first time in years.

Hold it hold it, New York stop right here. #1 Rubio belongs to the Minnesota Timberwolves not the New York Knicks so don’t tell me what you expect from him, you don’t have him and can’t aford him, stop wishing. Second, New York has nothing and I mean NOTHING that the Wolves would even consider in a trade. People, Rubio was the 5th pick in the draft and should have been possibly the 2nd pick. Minnesota is holding a pot of GOLD, New York is holding a empty cast iron pot [kind or like the Salvation Army at Christmas]. SORRY it just can’t happen, REALLY, IT JUST CAN’T HAPPEN FOLKS..
