Dictator Groupies: Lina Ron Tear Gassed A TV Station For Hugo Chavez

On Monday thirty militant Hugo Chavez supporters, led by one Lina Ron, a Chavez groupie and hair dye enthusiast, (pictured), attacked a television station that was critical of the Venezuelan president/sex symbol. Latin American media: you know how we do! The group entered Globovision premises at gunpoint and tossed tear gas bombs into the yard without ever entering the offices. Below is video of the chaotic game of hot potato that ensued:

Can you imagine that shit going down at CNN? Anderson would shit his pantaloons! Lina Ron is the leader of La Union Patriotica De Venezuela, the group who organized the attack and has long received support from Huey as a revolutionary action group. But now that many are pointing the finger in Chavez’s bloated direction, he’s not so supportive. The question remains, however, whether he is mad about the attacks on Globovision or if he only cares because they make him look bad. Officially he was quick to condemn the attack, but not the motive:

We condemn yesterday’s attack and because of this I have asked the minister of the interior to prosecute [Lina] to the fullest extent of the law, because actions like this give oxygen to the Bourgeois counter-revolutionaries, and gives them images that they can broadcast all over the world.

Notice he doesn’t say that the attacks are wrong because tossing tear gas at people is not nice, or trying to silence opposition voices is not good, but simply that it makes him look bad. He said he was going to have to “let go of [Lina's] hand” and is going to punish her actions because she broke the law, “It was a deplorable act, counter- revolutionary, and now everyone is blaming me.” Wow, what a dick.

Maybe he ordered the attack or maybe he didn’t, it is hard to say. What is clear is that his rhetoric of “counter-revolutionary TV stations” and “Bourgeois hatred for him” might whip up a loon like Lina into doing something stupid. It is also an ineffective deterrent to other loons to say, “Well, I get why you did it, but I’m going to have to punish you. Thanks and all, but you made me look bad…so…sucks to be you.” The message to any media outlet that criticizes him is clear, screw with Hugo and expect violent retaliation.
