Tony Fein Arrested Under Racial Profilingish Circumstances
24 August 2009, 9:33 AM. By Cindy Casares
Tony Fein, a rookie linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens who is also black, was arrested for assaulting a police officer yesterday when he refused to stand after the cops responded to a call about a possible weapon being passed around by him and his friends at the local Johnny Rockets. The thing is, it wasn’t a weapon, it was a cell phone. So, why should Tony Fein have to stand up in the middle of his meal? And how did whoever called the cops go from a cell phone being passed around a dinner table to thinking there was the threat of a weapon? Could it be because Tony (and possibly his friends) are black?
When officers approached the group of men, who were seated at a counter, they demanded that Fein stand up, but he refused, according to a police report. When Fein stood up after being asked to do so for a second time, police said he shoved an officer in the chest and was immediately arrested.
The Johnny Rockets where this occurred was the scene of a recent double shooting, but Fein has no prior arrests and is an Iraqui veteran.
