Younger And Smarter Wife Key to Happy Marriage, And the 4 Couples Who Prove It

A recent study titled “Optimizing the Marriage Market” conducted by a Bath University team revealed that marriages have a better chance at succeeding if the woman is younger than her husband by at least five years, and if she’s smarter too. In contrast, couples in which the woman is at least five years older than her counterpart are three times more likely to end in divorce.

While marriage is far off from our radar screen, we completely advocate men finding them younger and smarter. Don’t get us wrong, we love older women, especially now that shows like Cougar Town are making the Mrs. Robinsons of the world hot again, but in the long run, we think we’ll stick with the young’uns and have a long and fruitful marriage just like these folks.

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart

Okay, so technically they’re not married yet, but after being together for seven years, they are pretty damn close. The man behind Indiana Jones and Han Solo (two characters in the pantheon of ultimate manly men) is 23 years older than Calista Flockhart. Not only that, but she has more of an education than he does. Although Ford did go to Ripon College in Wisconsin, he never graduated, whereas Flockhart has her degree in theatre from Rutgers University.

Warren Beatty & Annette Bening

He was Clyde Barrow (in 1967’s Bonnie & Clyde) and motherfuckin’ Dick Tracy. She was the crazy hot mom in American Beauty. Beatty and Bening are 21 years apart and have been hitched for 16 years. Despite Beatty’s smart, political films, the man never went to college, choosing to instead enlist in the military. Bening, on the other hand attended both San Diego Mesa College and San Fransisco State University.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston

Mr. Saturday Night Fever has been married to actress Kelly Preston for over 17 years. The man who portrayed Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction is also 8 years older than his hot wife. Preston is smarter than her husband, at least on paper. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California, whereas Travolta did not study past high school, choosing to move to New York City instead.

Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw

The man behind the E.T., Schindler’s List, and Saving Private Ryan is married to actress Kate Capshaw, the actress who played Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Capshaw is nearly seven years younger than Spielberg and the two have been married since 1991. She is also is better educated. Capshaw earned her degree in education from the University of Missouri. In contrast, Spielberg never finished college. He was denied admittance to film school at USC three times (three times!), and instead of continuing his eduation at California State University, Long Beach, he decided to stop fucking around and churn out some seriously legendary movies.
