Walmart Now Sells Caskets, Just In Time For Halloween!

Walmart is now selling caskets through its online store. The behemoth retail chain recently decided to venture into the funeral market and has begun selling caskets and urns, offering them at reduced prices meant to undercut funeral homes. What’s interesting to us is how they obviously felt it was a smart business decision to cater to a very specific niche market.

For those of you who want to be buried in a casket that displays your religiosity and deep love for Catholicism, here are some of the specs on the Virgen de Guadalupe casket, retailing for $999! The exterior is hand-painted in a blue metallic color, while the interior bedding features an embroidered figure of La Virgen de Guadalupe. Oh yeah, the casket is also made in the United States, unlike everything else Walmart sells.

While some of you may wonder how well this product might sell, it looks like it’s garnered enough interest from potential customers that Walmart has posted a Q&A section on its site. This one’s most likely to end up on People of Walmart:

Q: Does this casket or others come in a larger size, i.e., length, width, to accommodate a person?

A: All our caskets are standard size and accommodate most people. However, if you mean a ‘larger’ person we have three (3) casket models that are built extra wide with four (4) extra inches of interior width. Please look at our Royal Star (2 versions) or the Regal Extra Wide.

  1. I’d buy this for grandfather, but the old man has been pretty firm about wanting to be put inside his El Camino when he’s buried.

  2. I want one for the office.

Just because we’re bereaved doesn’t mean we’re saps! Goddamnit! Is there a Ralph’s around here?!

  4. I like how the Wal Mart site for the casket has a “Be the first to rate and review this product” link. No thanks!

Better check state laws…just because you’ve bought a casket at a reduced rate doesn’t mean you get to use it! Some states it’s up to the funeral home you do business with whether to allow an outside product or not. If you aren’t careful you could end up with this sitting in your garage and trying to sell it on craig’s list!

Wrong answer that different states can prevent you from using a casket not purchased at the funeral home. It’s a FEDERAL law that says all funeral homes MUST accept a caskey you provide. It’s the law. You need not be ashamed bypassing their overpriced “showroom” and after all the arrangements are completed you tell them a casket will be delivered. It’s THAT simple.

Love it! Just Googled “walmart caskets” — the sponsored link says “Save on funeral products today. Walmart - Save money. Live better.”
