Yes We Créu Have The 2016 Olympics In Rio, The “Cidade Maravilhosa”

yes-we-creu Brazil is going apeshit over Rio de Janeiro being chosen to host the 2016 Olympics–as well they should–and the hottest search trend on Twitter is now “Yes We Créu.” The phrase is a play on Obama’s Cesar Chavez’ “Yes We Can,” crossed with a reference to the song, “Dança do Créu” by MC Créu, a Brazilian, one-hit wonder. The phrase loosely translates to, “Yes, we nailed it.” To further confuse foreigners, the guy featured in the picture at left is deceased Brazilian humorist, Mussum. We’re not sure why he’s been chosen other than the entire thing is supposed to be funny, (and maybe because he’s black?) It’s all very convoluted and you probably need to be Brazilian to understand, but suffice to say, it’s a celebratory thang. So, we’re always down for that.

In that vein, let’s listen to a gorgeous, acoustic version of Rio’s official song “Cidade Maravilhosa,” performed by Caetano Veloso.

(Obviously) I love Rio! That’s why I hate that they’re now fucked with the Olympics. It saddles you with massive debt (Toronto just finished paying it off), fuck over the poor and marginalized (There’s a few in Rio!), and leaves dumbass structures that hardly anyone ever uses again.

On the flip(pe) side, maybe now all those shacks that mar the landscape of Rio will be removed so you can take more than just edited photos of Rio when visiting.
The poor may be displaced but don’t worry, they may be able to move back into better housing when the O’s are all over.
Financing? Again, the US will probably provide more than half of the money from our stimulus package. Don’t expect any of the IOC members to fork over one dime; after all, they did their job properly?!
