Glen Bell Jr., the founder of Taco Bell, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86. We had no idea Taco Bell got its name from a white dude. We thought that shit was as authentic as the Enchirito. In honor of Glen's passing, let's take a look back at some of Taco Bell's most high profile moments in history.

Taco Bell Buys The Liberty Bell

In 1996, Taco Bell purchased a full-page ad in the New York Times for April Fool's Day saying the following:
In an effort to help the national debt, Taco Bell is pleased to announce that we have agreed to purchase the Liberty Bell, one of our country's most historic treasures. It will now be called the "Taco Liberty Bell" and will still be accessible to the American public for viewing. While some may find this controversial, we hope our move will prompt other corporations to take similar action to do their part to reduce the country's debt.
Tom Tancredo understandably blew a gasket, though the next day the company admitted it was just an April Fool's Day prank. And a great one at that.

On January 9, 2009 Paul and Caragh Brooks were married in an Illinois Taco Bell. The couple met on the internet--Caragh is originally from Australia--and decided to wed at Taco Bell because, according to Paul "It's an off-beat relationship and we figured that would be off-beat."

In 2007, local news cameras caught some rats having a free-for-all after hours inside a Taco Bell/KFC located on 6th avenue and West 3rd street in Greenwhich Village of New york City. Though disgusting for people who ate there, it made fantastic television.

"If You Like Piña Coladas"

Forget that stupid chihuahua, this spot from 2008 tapped into the hearts and minds of working people everywhere when it beckoned us to take a "breakation" with Taco Bell's new piña colada flavored drink. Come on. Sing it with us now, "If you hate filling out your time sheets!"

David Letterman Dares A Guy To Eat Taco Bell After E.coli Outbreak

After a 2006 E.coli outbreak at Taco Bell sickened dozens of people in the Northeast, David Letterman took it upon himself to assuage everybody's fears about eating there again by getting some guy to be his guinea pig.
