Speaking to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, he jokingly referred to Ibrahimovic as his boyfriend and offered the following explanation:

Gerard Pique finally spoke about the now infamous photograph depicting him caressing fellow Barcelona teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Unlike his cohort, the Catalan player handled it like an adult.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, he jokingly referred to Ibrahimovic as his boyfriend and offered the following explanation:
We saw the photograph in the locker room and just laughed. That picture was taken when we were talking about my book [Viatge d’anada i tornada] back in March. The press kept the picture and published it in the second to last week of La Liga to destabilize us.The Barça defender also confirmed that there are gay players in soccer, but conceded that they would likely not come out of the closet because of the sport's "macho environment."
