Paraguayan player Jose Pedrozo tried to choke out referee Marcelo Miranda during the Chilean second division match between Rangers and Deportes Concepcion after the latter showed the footballer a red card. Pedrozo– who plays for Rangers– snapped, rushed to the official and put him on a sleeper hold before his teammates pulled him away.
After the match, Pedrozo refused to apologize to the official, claiming that Miranda was in cahoots with Deportivo Concepcion (the referee gave the team four different opportunities to retake one penalty kick). The much maligned player also announced his retirement from the sport in the post-match press conference. South Americans, man They take their soccer way too seriously.
