Drug violence protesters in Mexico City turned this fountain in the Zocalo blood-red after a four-day march from Cuernavaca. The march was lead by Mexican Poet Javier Sicilia, whose son was killed in drug violence in Cuernavaca last month.

With all due respect, I don't get what message the protesters are trying to send. Of course everyone (except the Cartels) want the violence and the killing to end, but from what I've been able to read the leader's of these recent protests(lead in part by Javier Sicilia) want the President Calderon to fire his director of public security and withdraw the military that was deployed to crush the Cartels. Again, with all due respect to Mr. Sicilia (who has endured something that no parent should ever have to endure), the protester's goals sound like the absolute worst strategy imaginable. Lets be honest, the local cops either: a) have no desire or ability to battle the Cartel's; or b) have already been corrupted by the Cartels. Thus, while taking the military out may in the short run reduce the amount of violence in the Border states, it will undoubtedly allow the Cartel's to regroup, strengthen and tighten their grip upon the very people for whom these protesters claim to be speaking. I believe that this is one fight that will have to be continued to the bitter end, because the Cartels must be obliterated of they will be the end of the Mexican State as we know it.

Yes it's true. Their argument is that the military can't prevent crime, they are just trained to kill. So I see both sides of the argument. I don't think it's the right solution either but what is? I think that there needs to be a revolt within the Mexican citizens to fight back. It's understandable that the people are deathly afraid of the cartels but that is what has made it so easy for them. More people need to be like Don Vicente and that other old man from Tamaulipas that fought back even if it cost them their lives.

If they really wanted to send a message to the source of the problem, they turn the fountains in the US blood red.

I hope that cannabis will be banned soon and those who sell it after that to do jail. I see at drug rehab centers people that destroy their lives because of this drug. It's so sad to see so many people that don't know what they do, until is too late.
