Your famous Mexican friends -- they'll win the presidential election for you!

It's common sense that having famous or influential friends can greatly increase a person's odds at getting in on anything. Actors, musicians, and artists are more likely to land a part, record deal, or coveted wall space if a person of importance can vouch for them, right? The same exact reasoning can be applied to politics which is why, for example, panista Josefina Vazquez Mota recently paid asked old-school actor Mario Almada to praise her in a video spot. Does Mario Almada know anything about politics? Probably not. Or at least I've never heard any political pronouncements come from him before. But Mario, because of his bust-a-cap-in-your-ass justiciero movies, is very likable. By appropriating his likeness, Josefina is looking to come off as the political version of Mario's on-screen persona; the ass-kicking woman who will send mean 'ol drug lords running back to their mothers. Will it actually happen? Probably not. In Josefina's case, even Vicente Fox, the panista ex-president, isn't backing her up. But the one thing that politicians can always count on is that la prole, the masses, are fickle. General opinion can be laughably swayed by association. In the end it doesn't matter if one's acting, music, art, or policies are any good as long as some other establishment says you're good enough. Ha. And if you actually get what you're asking for, at some point you better be ready to return the favor. Or do you think Televisa goon Jaime Camil is voting for the other Televisa goon Enrique Peña Nieto because Camil doesn't know Peña is an idiot? Naw.

Famous or influential Mexican friends -- put their asses to work for you! (Because later on they're going put your ass to work for them.)
